Shop around and top up, don’t fill up. That’s the latest advice from the RACQ as Queenslanders continue to pay high fuel prices. The motoring body has accused some south east petrol stations of ‘punishing drivers with outrageously high prices’. RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said while almost 40 per cent of the market now charged 145 cents per litre (cpl) or less for unleaded fuel (ULP), more than five per cent continued to rip drivers off. We are starting to see a dip back into the lower end of the price cycle.
Currently on the Gold Coast the average cost of unleaded is 144cpl, but the ‘fair’ price is closer to 140cpl, with drivers urged to visit RACQ’s Fair Fuel website for the best prices in their area.
